Why do you paint?
I started painting when I was a kid. I have a really creative mind and have tried my hand at other things, but painting is the only thing I'm good at !
How do you describe your work ?
My work is really expressive and light hearted. It's all about the brushstrokes and the color palette.
Whats the best advice someone else has given you ?
My mentor who trained me professionally kept urging that I paint more loosely because at the time I was really focused on these tight, controlled strokes and it wasn't until after that, that I was able to paint like I do now.
Is there a similarity between your paintings and personal style?
I guess, I never thought about that, but there definitely is a correlation. I love muted pastels and unconventional colors and that's really what I gravitate towards in both art and fashion. And since my paintings are flowing and loose, my personal style is sort of that way-- pretty much the opposite of tailored and structured.
Who is your favorite artist?
I have so many favorite artists that change as my interests evolve. I'd say, right now it would be my friend Greg Friedler, he's a really talented photographer who has a unique perspective. I also love Richard Serra.
When do you feel inspired the most?
When I'm happy!
What is your favorite fashion and art collaboration?
This might sound egotistical, but I actually curated one several years back! That's the only one that comes to mind.
