Woldy Reyes - 3.1 Phillip Lim
Where are you from?
What brought you to New York?
I never thought in a million years I would move anywhere. I was set on living in Southern California until my trip in the summer of 2009 where I fell in love with New York. There is a vibrance in this city that I never experienced and a lot of energy and creativity. A year later I moved here and just started interning at different places in the fashion industry to figure out where I wanted to be. I graduated with a hotel and restaurant management degree but I secretly really wanted to do something in fashion.
In high school...
I was the fat kid and weighed 250 pounds.
Michael’s Arts & Crafts. It was actually a lot of fun. I loved wearing the red apron.
What’s on your playlist?
I daydream of...
Having my own restaurant, specialty food store and or catering.
What sparked your passion for food?
My grandmother. Growing up in my grandmother’s house she would tell me stories about working at her father’s restaurant back in the Philippines. Being next to her while she was cooking and playing with her pots and pans. I would help her whenever she needed.
What is a good Filipino restaurant?
Maharlika in the East Village. The fried chicken and ube waffle is really good there and they also have staple dishes like Tapsilog.
